An animal rights group urged the government yesterday to free what is thought to be the world’s largest crocodile in captivity, even though it allegedly killed two people.

  • Abu Sayyaf hardcore member falls in Basilan

ZAMBOANGA CITY — Government troops have arrested an alleged hardcore member of the Abu Sayyaf Group in the island province of Basilan, south of this city, a top military official said.

Special Operations Task Force-Basilan (SOTF-B) commander Col. Alexander Macario said the arrest was made around 5:30 a.m. last Friday in Barangay Tandung Ahas, Lamitan City.

  • EO gives Purisima power to monitor taxpayers

President Aquino has cloaked Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima with vast powers through Executive Order (EO) 56, which was issued last Sept. 6 but released only recently, allowing him to order the opening of tax documents of any Filipino on the pretense of suspicions of tax evasion, including those documents that would be requested by foreign tax authorities.
