GOVERNOR AMADO "SPINES" T. ESPINO, JR.

Pangasinan gov debunks insinuations he’s behind jai alai:

"The governor stressed that he was against jai alai. He bared that controversial gambling personality Charlie “Atong” Ang brought the game to the province allegedly after attending the birthday party of third district Congresswoman Rachel Arenas. “Binigyan siya ng permit para mag-operate sa third district. Hindi namin pinayagan yan. Kahit kailan hindi namin pinayagan yan,” he said.

He recalled that it was Ang, in collaboration with former Archbishop Oscar Cruz who put him in a bad light during the last congressional hearings on illegal gambling." (Read more...)

Rep. Rachel Arenas was unfairly dragged into the issue involving Charlie "Atong" Ang:

"The governor denies any involvement in the operation of Jai alai in Pangasinan since it was the mayors who issued the business permits.

The governor also says that it was 3rd District Rep. Rachel Arenas who invited Atong Ang to come to Pangasinan.

Arenas has denied inviting Ang and said she is against any form of illegal gambling.

The talks are ripe in Bayambang that a son of a high official of the province is eyeing the congressional seat in the 3rd District.

By continuously linking the name of Rep. Arenas to Atong Ang, the theory is that Arenas will lose her popularity the favored son will be able to have a good chance come 2013 for the congressional seat.

Looks like the congressional race in 2013 for the 3rd congressional district is going to be a big, explosive and expensive one.

And of course the long term goal is for the favored son to become governor of Pangasinan in 2016." (Read more...)

Archbishop Oscar Cruz says Charlie Atong Ang is not into Jueteng:

"...Cruz said Ang could not have been into jueteng while operating jai-alai, a supposedly legal form of gambling coursed through the Cagayan Special Economic Zone and Free Port.

'It's my understanding that Atong Ang, although he's formerly very active in jueteng, now hits jueteng because he wants his jai-alai business to spread,' he told the Inquirer.

Cruz added: 'If he's for jai-alai, he can't be for jueteng or vice versa because one outdoes the other.'

In a phone interview, Ang said it would be in his favor if jueteng was stamped out for good..." (Read more...)
